Turkish poultry firm to export to Riyadh

A ban on poultry imports was imposed in 2005 following a bird flu epidemic.

Şeker Piliç’s Assistant General Manager Emre Bor said the company was honored to be the first firm to sign a poultry agreement with Saudi Arabia and that the Middle Eastern market was pivotal for the Turkish poultry sector.

“We have made our agreement, received our orders and our products will soon fill the shelves of the Saudi supermarkets. I have no doubt that after Iraq and Iran we will be one of the key players in the Saudi market,” said Bor.

Bor added that with the inclusion of the Saudi Arabia market, Şeker Piliç’s poultry exports would jump from $14.7 million in 2011 to $30 million by the end of the year.

The company plans to make its first poultry delivery to Saudi Arabia before the end of February.
